Bottles - raw material instead of waste

Old beverage bottles are perfect for giving free rein to creativity when upcycling. Our name Altglas (German for “glass waste”) is also our mission: We want to show the beautiful upcycling products you can build from old glass bottles and inspire to think about even more upcycling ideas.

We are by far not the only ones who have ideas about what to do with the old bottles and waste:

Too much rubbish ...

In Germany, every individual produces an average of 220.5 kg of packaging waste per year. Even though we have effective recycling systems in Germany and many parts of Europe, it has long been clear that things cannot go on like this. We therefore want to suggest the principle of 5 “R” to you:

  • Refuse  to buy what you don’t need.
  • Reduce buying the things that you need.
  • Reuse what you can use again.
  • Recycle what you can’t reuse.
  • Rot: compost the rest.

Upcycling instead of one-time-use

Instead of buying a new plastic soap dispenser in the drugstore once a month, you can quickly turn an old bottle into a refillable soap dispenser. You can refill it as many times as you like and honestly, doesn’t it look way better than the cheap plastic soap dispensers?

While ideas like this are simple and mundane, in sum they have an effect on our waste production and the way we handle resources.
